June 2nd kicked-off the festivities commemorating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. What an exciting beginning to the historic international celebration! Sixty years of dedicated service is worthy of celebration!
On this side of the pond, my girlfriend picked me up at 7:45 a.m. to travel to Sweet Shalom tea room in Sylvania, Ohio for their first "Royal Diamond Jubilee Tea." How appropriate to celebrate the Queen's 60-year reign over an English tea party!
The Union Jack flag was placed on the front door to greet all the guests coming to celebrate.
The tablescapes were decorated for the Diamond Jubilee Celebration!
The menu featured Queen Elizabeth II on the cover.
As owner, Chris, poured our first cup of tea...
We raised our teacups in tribute to the Queen!
[L to R: Sandy, Phyllis [me] and Lori]
Kensington Palace Scones with double cream and jam began the tea party.
Followed by Coronation Chicken on Spring Greens.
Then the savories and sweets on a tiered server:
Fresh Tomato Tea Sandwiches
Cucumber Tea Sandwiches
Stilton and Poppy Seed Sandies
Desserts: Lemon Syllabub with Raspberry garnish and Queen Elizabeth Cake.
The grand finale was Flaming Cherries Jubilee - a dessert that was created for Queen Victoria on her Diamond Jubilee! The owner's daughter-in-law gave us a few words of explanation before pouring the liquor over the cherry sauce and flaming it. [It was flaming in the photo below, but the flame isn't visible.]
What a yummy dessert. No wonder it was served to royalty!
The Tea Room was beautifully decorated in honor of Her Majesty!
Even the weather on June 2nd was typical of England - overcast and misty, but it didn't dampen our spirits or or spoil our celebration! God Save the Queen!
