Pewabic Extravaganza

A few words about this table...  Pewabic Pottery is a studio and school in Detroit, MI.  It was founded in 1903, and is known for its iridescent glazes, some of which grace notable buildings and private mansions, and is on display at the Louvre.  The pottery continues in operation today in its 1907 Tudor Revival building as a non-profit educational institution. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1991, and is Michigan's only historic pottery.

Festival of Tables - Part I

Last Sunday, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., was the viewing of 33 tablescapes at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. The proceeds went to St. John Providence Health System Breast Care Program. This was their 11th annual event, but the  first one I've attended.

We were greeted with floating pink and white flowers in the fountain at the entrance of the War Memorial.   The War Memorial was once a private residence, and in 1949 Mrs. Russell Alger, Jr. deeded the Italian Renaissance Mansion and grounds to the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Association.

I will spread my photos out over a few posts due to the large volume.  While there was no official voting on favorite tables, or prizes awarded, I will begin with the tables that I liked best.

Mrs. Miniver's Rose Garden

Since this table was tea themed, you know it would be at the top of my favorites!  I liked its simplistic elegance.  Notice the layering of the linens.  Most of the tables decorated their chairs too.

Proud as a Peacock

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Petals and Pearls

Flamenco

Symphony of Friends

Mad About Plaid

Run for the Roses

Vintage Wedding

I'll close with a whimsical tablescape, " Bee Happy," which is about a third of the way through the tablescapes.  The hostess of this table said she had been collecting bee items for a couple of years to complete this tablescape.

Come back tomorrow for more!
