The Lady in the Van

When I had lunch with a friend last month, she told me about a new movie Maggie Smith was starring in, The Lady in the Van.  My hubby and I went to a matinee showing at the Maple Theater in Bloomfield Hills [MI] yesterday to see it.

The Maple Theater is an upscale cinema with a cafe that serves Harney and Son's tea.  I'm impressed!  How many theater's do that?

In the mostly true story, Maggie Smith plays the role of Miss. Shepherd, a homeless lady, who "temporarily" parked her van in Alan Bennett's [played by Alex Jennings] London driveway and stayed for 15 years!

There were lots of tea scenes, and Maggie successfully transitioned from riches to rags in an entirely different setting from Downton Abbey.

  1. That sounds like a fun movie! I so enjoyed the last movie I saw starring Maggie Smith, which was "Quartet" a couple of years ago. (If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it). I would love for our movie theater to serve Harney's teas - but I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Popcorn, sodas, and candy are the main movie fare around here.
