A Program About Queen Elizabeth II

Last Saturday I was invited to speak to a group of ladies at Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church in Dearborn, MI - 30 miles from where I live.  My subject was Queen Elizabeth II.  Sharing the Queen's amazing life with others is always a privilege, and I always learn something new myself as I prepare.

The day before [Friday] we had unseasonably warm temperatures [70 degrees], but Mother Nature did a complete turn around on Saturday. On my drive to and from Dearborn I drove through rain, sleet, and snow flurries in temps 40 degrees and less!

~Below is the beautiful church where I spoke. ~

The luncheon, hosted by the Presbyterian Women of Cherry Hill, was held in the lovely church parlor.  I love church parlors.  They're so warm and inviting.

I liked the Presbyterian Women's mission statement so much that I photographed it.

It reads:  Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ we commit ourselves:
To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
To support the mission of the church worldwide,
To work for justice and peace, and
To build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian
church [USA] and witness to the promise of God's Kingdom.

~ The tables were all set with a fall Thanksgiving/Harvest theme. ~

After a brief devotional, Sherry Brown [pictured below], introduced me.  She told me beforehand that I was allotted an hour to speak.  I think I used about 45 minutes.  It was difficult to squeeze 90 years of the Queen's amazing life into such a short time span, but the ladies were very attentive and interested.

~ I displayed a few pictures of the Queen. ~

I hoped I'd be forgiven by the Queen for not wearing a hat.  Since it was a luncheon and not an Afternoon Tea nobody else wore one either.  Regarding the Queens hats, I learned in my research that during the past half-century she's worn over 5,000 different hats which figures out to 100 new hats designed for her every year.

I'm amazed that at 90 the Queen still rises at 7:30 a.m. and goes to bed at 11:00 p.m. with no nap in between. She still mounts and rides a horse, and she walks without the aid of a cane or walker. She may be the Sovereign of another country, but Americans love her too.

The event was very well attended, and after my presentation a lovely salad buffet was served followed by a dessert tray brought to each table.

I knew you'd want to see, so I photographed my plate.  There was Maurice Salad [J.L. Hudson would be proud!], Jello Salad, Waldorf [Apple] Salad, Pasta Salad, Oriental Cole Slaw, Chicken Salad and fresh fruit.  Everything was delicious.

My dessert was Pumpkin Roll.

I was delightfully surprised when Sherry told me some of my friends [Barb and Louise] were coming and I was going to be seated at their table.  They came as part of their Quester's group.

Thank you for inviting me as your guest speaker, Sherry.  I greatly enjoyed being with you and your lovely group of Presbyterian ladies and their friends.

  1. I too like the Presbyterian Women's mission statement and the fact that it was posted. A great topic, I'm sure you did HRM justice. Did you watch The Crown on Netflicks Phyllis?
