Golden Globe Awards and Tea

I confess, I didn't watch the Golden Globe Awards last Sunday night [I was watching Downton Abbey instead], but I was happy to learn Joanne Froggatt, who plays the role of Lady's maid, Anna Bates, won best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a drama series. Anna is my favorite 'downstairs' character.

In season IV Anna's controversial storyline involved a horrifying rape by a guest valet visiting Downton Abbey.  Joanne dedicated her acceptance speech to rape victims.

Equally as interesting as the Golden Globe Award reviews, was the coverage of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts [BAFTA] exclusive star-studded gala tea party that was held the night before the awards at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles, at Beverly Hills. For some Golden Globe nominees, the awards season began with a cup of tea!

Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, is the President of BAFTA being appointed to the position in February 2010.

Joanne Froggatt was at the tea party, looking as cute as ever!

She was joined by Laura Carmichael [Lady Edith Crawley], Allen Leech [Tom Branson], and creator/writer Julian Fellowes.  Notice the tea urn and plate of lemon slices to the right of Julian Fellows.  There were scones and finger sandwiches at the tea party too.  The British sure know how to do their parties right, don't they?

I read about the gala tea party while sipping a cup of Republic of Tea's Bates' Brambleberry black tea.  It's very good, and was featured on the cover of Republic of Tea's recent catalog.

Congratulations Joanne Froggatt aka Anna Bates.  You're well deserving of your Golden Globe Award!

  1. A nice tribute to Ms. Froggatt, she has made Anna a memorable character. We haven't seen too much of Mr. Bates, the supposed witness will bring him back to the limelight no doubt though.

  2. I don't usually care who wins, but I was happy for her - love her!

  3. I was glad to see that she won, even though I haven't watched the show!

  4. I'm so glad to hear that Joanne won. She is an exceptional actress and is one my favorite characters on Downton Abbey as well.
