Wishing all my tea friends in Canada a Happy Thanksgiving!
God's blessings to all!
And to all my American tea friends, Happy Columbus Day! I bought the Christopher Columbus teapot at an estate sale a few years ago.
I still remember the grade school song I learned in music class, "In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue, hurrah! hurrah!"
It's been said America wouldn't have been discovered by Christopher Columbus if it weren't for tea. King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella had hopes of establishing a trade route to the East Indies for tea and spices and sent Columbus to explore it. He sailed westward and discovered the Americas instead!
On the way to my son's house last week, I stopped to take the photo below.
Your fall vignettes are lovely, Phyllis. I especially like the Aladdin teapot!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving Day to all of you Canadians.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Christopher Columbus, you had better protect that tea pot because Columbus is becoming very unpopular in the states and Puerto Rico where I now live. Some states have changed it to Happy Indigenous Peoples Day. Columbus was in Puerto Rico before what is now the states. He invaded these places, raped the women, killed the native people, brought disease. He could not have found places where people were already living. In my older years I am becoming more vocal about making history correct.
I enjoy your post, however, I rarely comment.
Blessings
Oh my! Glad the teapot wasn't a big investment. I haven't heard the negative things about him before. It took a while for his past to catch up to him. Wonder how long before all the states do away with Columbus Day??
DeleteBeautiful fall photos! And I love the fruit "boat" as well as the Columbus teapot. Our trees here are JUST beginning to have their pretty fall colors. I do love this time of year.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Autumn Photos! The autumn teapots and fall leaves are so beautiful! I love the Christopher Columbus teapot and I also remember the reciting the words. We hope to have cooler weather in Texas rather than the warm summer days. Please, pop over and view my post!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous fall week!
Pam
The Columbus teapot is so much fun! Autumn is full of pretty colors. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the gorgeous trees, Phyllis! The Fall teapots are so pretty and the Christopher Columbus one is very unique. I read Nancy's comments above and I had no idea of all that, either.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day!
What wonderful teapots, Phyllis. I really love the Harvest Festival vignette. The Aladdin teapot is really cute and the Columbus teapot is unique. l just read the comment left by Nancy and am disappointed to read what Columbus did while in Puerto Rico. Of course there are many stories that we don't hear about. Thank you for sharing with us and joining me for tea today.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
I had read of the possible change of name for Columbus day last year but wonder if it will actually happen.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find more pieces of the china with Give Thanks on it - I know you're looking for the teacups as it really is nice.
Pretty Autumn tea ... such nice colors. Give Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm just now starting to slow down and savor fall, so these lovely photos are right up my alley! I must say I'm coveting your Aladdin teapot. I saw one of those at an antique mall over the weekend but they were asking $110 for it!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful place, having such an open and joyous feeling to it. It's totally amazing! This is definitely a wonderful place to spend time. It's plenty fun to sit and enjoy food and drinks at New York venues with amazing conversations.
