Afternoon Tea at the Townsend Hotel

Late yesterday afternoon it occurred to me that a visit to the Townsend Hotel for Afternoon Tea was long overdue.  I'm blessed with a girlfriend who is willing to go to tea with me on a moment's notice, so I contacted the Townsend to see if we could get reservations for this afternoon at 1:00 o'clock.  To our delight they were able to accommodate us.

The Townsend Hotel is located at 100 Townsend Street, in Birmingham, MI

There were two other groups of ladies enjoying Afternoon Tea the same time as us, so it wasn't as busy as weekends are.

Our pleasant and efficient server, Ginger, greeted us and took us to the low table reserved for our Afternoon Tea.   Isn't the beautiful fresh rose on the table a nice touch?

A freshly baked Cinnamon Chip Scone was awaiting our enjoyment.  It was served with Mascarpone Cheese and the Townsend's homemade Lemon Curd.

Our savories [beginning at the top] included: Asparagus with Boursin Cheese topped with a Quail Egg; Chicken Salad with Maple Walnut Butter served in a Profiterole; Cucumber served on Pita with Hummus, topped with Olive Tapenade; Shrimp with Guacamole served on Polenta; and Salmon with Egg Salad topped with Crème Fraiche and Caviar [outside edge of tray]. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite because they were all delicious.

The miniature tea pastries were last:  Pumpkin Cheesecake; Chocolate Covered Strawberry, and White Chocolate Raspberry Mousse served in a Chocolate Tea Cup.

This enjoyable tea experience was $36 inclusive of tax and gratuity.  For local readers, call 248-647-2196 to make your reservation for Afternoon Tea offered seven days a week from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Reservations are required.
