We returned from the Charleston Tea Plantation just in time for a few photos at the Belmond Charleston Place Hotel, before our elegant Afternoon Tea at 1:00 p.m. in the Thoroughbred Club.
Belmond Charleston Place Hotel opened in 1986 [under a different name], and is located in the historic center of Charleston. It's one of the top ranked hotels in North America. The front entrance off Meeting Street has a fountain with four 9-ft. bronze horses, and a Carolina bird of prey.
The lobby is beautiful with Italian marble floors and a hand-blown Murano Venetian chandelier with more than 3,000 pieces of glass. It is 12-ft. in diameter and height and weighs 4,000 lbs. It sits between a Georgian open-arm staircase.
The staircase was a perfect setting for a group photo!

Credit for most of the beautiful hats seen in the pictures throughout our trip goes to Linda. Typically hats take up a lot of space, so I stipulated no hats unless they were packable and could fit in a suitcase. Teresa and Rebecca brought their own packable hats, but Linda brought 8 or 10 of hers that fit into one hatbox and we switched colors each day to coordinate with our outfits. The hats made quite an impression on bystanders. Thanks, for sharing, Linda!
There's a smaller fountain at the Market Street entrance to the hotel [pedestrian accessible only], so we had our picture taken there too.
Then it was time to make our way to the Thoroughbred Club where Afternoon Tea is served.
I ordered Black Currant tea and it was so good.
Savories were open-faced Salmon, Pimento roll-ups, BLT, Egg Salad, and Chicken Salad.
Desserts: Strawberry Cupcake with Buttercream Frosting; Raspberry Cheesecake; Pistachio Cupcake; Cinnamon Bread Pudding, and Apricot Mousse.

We had two more activities before the day was over - a Carriage Ride of Charleston and dinner [except for Teresa who ordered another Afternoon Tea] at East Bay Meeting House. Next post...
You are all just gorgeous! What wonderful photographs. The hotel tea looks absolutely scrumptious. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment.
ReplyDeleteI love all the group pictures, as well as the individual ones. And of course, the hats! I'm sure your lovely group made quite an impression everywhere you went, as you should. This afternoon tea looks quite delicious, and what a gorgeous setting.
ReplyDeleteAfter viewing the pictures, the menu and the hotel, I wish I had gone here for tea. Maybe another time.
