A New Michigan Tea Room Book

I recently discovered a new, hot off the press book about Michigan Tea Rooms © Dec. 2015, written by Barbara Gulley.  I ordered my copy from Amazon, and it arrived a couple of days ago.

The 43-page, fast-reading book features 12 tea rooms in Michigan [hence 'Steeper by the Dozen'], and since it's a series, there will be more to come.

The cover photo features the tea lobby at Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel.

Of the 12 tea establishments Barb features, I've been to seven.  Two are a distance away [in northern MI and the Upper Peninsula], but I want to check out the other three.  She includes a variety of tea venues, from upscale hotels, to a casual Asian establishment, to a British Victorian tea room in a vintage house, to a whimsical [Mad Hatter] bistro/tea room, to eclectic, multi-cultural, artsy, sophisticated, and contemporary venues. Just like tea, there's an establishment to accommodate everyone's preference.

Barb's Tea Service is the name of her tea education business where she and her daughter, Rachel, have been making learning about tea a fun experience since 2004. Barb is a certified Tea Etiquette Consultant from the Protocol School of Washington, and an avid Jane Austen fan. She did a Jane Austen presentation the first time I heard her speak in 2012.

Barb wrote an article about her recent travels to England where she visited Highclere Castle and the Village of Bampton [where Downton Abbey is filmed], and it is featured in the current January/February 2016 issue of Tea Time Magazine [page 50].  Downton Abbey  is now included Barb's presentation repertoire, and she has several events scheduled.

Congratulations on your new book, Barb, and I look forward to the next one in the series! For local readers [or tea lovers planning to visit Michigan] this is a great little book to add to your tea library.  Barb also has a tea blog called Barb's Tea Shop that began in 2007.

  4. How wonderful to have enough tea rooms to write a book about them, and to enjoy reading such a book!

  5. Funny that you would mention this. I read her article in the new Tea Time and wondered if you two knew each other!
