My hubby and I did our usual Saturday morning routine - breakfast at the Country Oven, then we drove a short distance to the Utica Outdoor Antique Market. It was a beautiful, sunny, breezy, day with the temps climbing into the 90's by mid-day.
Utica Antique Market is the biggest outdoor antique market in southeast Michigan, and it seemed like there were more vendors and attendees this year than last. We arrived around 11:00 a.m., and it took us about two hours to cover the entire market.
I really wasn't looking for anything in particular, but I did manage to come home with a few things. A hanky from Scotland for my hanky collection.
Two small blue transferware pitchers from England - $8 for both.
We stopped at a mother/son booth, where I spotted two Shelley trios. They were $40 each but the lady said if we bought both she'd sell them for $35 each. I was debating whether I should get them, when my hubby said we'd take them. I haven't been antiquing in a long time, but I think that's a good price.
After we left the antique market we each ran some errands on our to do lists. Kohl's was having a home goods sale, and I noticed some tea-themed rugs in their advertisement that came in the mail. My current kitchen rugs needed replacing, and I'm very pleased with the new ones. Between the sale and discounts the rugs came to $9.75 each [regularly $29.99]. What a bargain!
Around 4:00 o'clock we were off again to the American Polish Festival in nearby Sterling Heights. It seemed like a fun way to wind down the day. I think everyone else thought that too, because it was very crowded.
The booths were mostly craft and flea market items, but it was the Polish food that interested us.
We got some potato perogies and went inside a large tent to eat them while listening to a band play Polish music and watch people dance the polka. My mother didn't have a drop of Polish blood in her but she sure liked to polka in her younger years.
From my observation, a polka is a real exercise workout, but young and old alike were on the dance floor.
We watched for awhile and then decided to head home to relax in our air-conditioned house. We definitely got our share of vitamin D today, while having fun in the sun!
Gosh, from start to finish, what a fun day!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a day! I'm exhausted just reading about it - but it does sound like a fun-filled day. I love the trios you found, as well as the pitchers and tartan plaid hanky.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good time. That Hanky from Scotland is beautiful. Enjoy.
