Happy Valentine's Day!

Today seemed like the perfect day to get out my heart-shaped waffle maker and prepare some chocolate waffles for breakfast.  It was a new recipe from the Internet because I couldn't find where I put my other recipe, but it worked just fine.  I'll include the waffle recipe at the end of this post.

It was also the day to get out my Valentine placemats and teacups.

Our tea was Courtship Tea that I order from Donna & Ron Lasko in Osterville, MA.  It's a black tea with an essence of ginger, blended for them by Harney & Sons.

My honey gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers to enjoy on this special day.  We've known each other for most of our lives, meeting in the 10th grade.  Tonight we're going out to dinner at Andiamo's - a restaurant we only visit on special occasions.

Our daughter-in-law sent us two pics of our youngest grandchild, Ellie, at her kindergarten Valentine's party this morning.  In the picture below she's holding the box she made to contain the Valentine's from her classmates.

In the second photo she's holding her handmade Valentine.

I especially like the 'Valentine' I read in God's Word last night:  '"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor My covenant of peace be removed,' says the Lord who has compassion on you."  [Isaiah 54:10]  Someone has rightly said the Bible is God's love letter to us.  The prophet Jeremiah said in Lamentations 3:22-23 "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."  [English Standard Version].  I'm thankful God's 'love notes' are not only for Valentine's Day, but every day of the year!

I also enjoyed the article Elyse & John: The Love Story Behind Harney & Sons Tea that is in the March/April issue of Tea Time Magazine.  It's worth getting the magazine for that one article alone, although the magazine contains many other good articles too.  This was Tea Time's first ever French issue.

The article was written by James Norwood Pratt and is the first in a series of the romance of tea.  I liked their quote "There's a great deal of romance in a chest of tea!"  We lost a great tea ambassador when John Harney passed in 2014, but so glad his family is continuing his legacy.

Chocolate Waffle Recipe
[Makes 3 Waffles]

1/2 cup melted butter [1 stick]
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk

Mix all ingredients together.  Drop batter onto a hot waffle iron.  Cook until waffle maker indicates waffle is done.  [Mine makes a chirping sound].  The batter is a bit stiff, but the waffles turn out perfectly.

  1. Those waffles sound delicious! I enjoyed the Tea Time issue about the Harneys, too. I have a close friend who is planning a trip to France, so I gave her my issue after I'd read it all.
