China Cabinet Redo

Even with all the cabinets my hubby has built to display my dishes, there's never enough room for everything.  Last week while sorting and organizing totes in the basement, I decided to change the china in the family room cabinet.

Below are the chocolate pots, teapots and teacups that were in it.

What a job to remove and wrap everything to put in storage totes.  I labeled each piece, as well as the totes, so I'll be able to find things easily when needed.  I don't think I'll be making another change for quite a while! ;-)

I decided to display my pink and red transferware, and some of my pink Depression glass. My collection of Depression glass was a fair size, and when my mother moved into assisted living she gave me all of hers, increasing the size considerably. Below is what would fit on my dining room table, and that's not all of it.  It was hard to decide what to put in the china cabinet and what to put back into storage.

I'm still tweaking the china cabinet, but this is the outcome so far.

These kinds of projects make me realize how much "stuff" I have, and that I should never buy another dish for the rest of my life, but... I probably will!  ;-)

My transferware is Johnson Brothers Old Britain Castles.  I have service for eight.

  1. There just is never enough storage space or display space, is there? As a lover of pink DG and of red transferware, I really enjoyed seeing your collection.

  2. Lovely! The transferware is perfect for the holidays...but the process is always a chore. Lovely result, though.

  6. I love-love-love the new china and glass display! And that was so smart to label those totes. You have to be one of the most organized people ever!

  7. Oh my, I'm swooning, Phyllis! I adore the red transferware and I love pink depression glass too. Two of my favourite things! I have a service for four in the JB Old Britain Castles which I accumulated last year. I don't have the teapot or C&S but I have the plates, bowls, and teacups. I was over the moon happy to get them because there is no red transferware to be found around here. Sears Christmas catalogue just happened to carry them last year which is how I got them. Your display is simply wonderful and I know how much work it is to bring everything out to display it. Thank you for sharing us yours. It's beautiful!

    Christmas blessings,
    Sandi
