I am committing to spending more time in prayer in 2016 than I ever have before. Praising God for who He is... Confessing my weaknesses and failures... Thanking Him for His blessings and faithfulness... and interceding for others.
I recently read a self-evaluating quote by Martin Luther: "To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing."
If Jesus who was sinless needed to set aside time daily to pray to His Father, how much more do I need to do it.
The Irish poet, Joseph Scrivner, wrote a poem to his ill mother in 1855 titled "Pray Without Ceasing." It was later set to music and renamed "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." It has become a favorite hymn of millions of Christians around the world over the years. I particularly like the first verse:
What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear.
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh what peace we often forfeit,
Oh what needless pain we bear.
All because we do not carry,
Everything to God in prayer.
Prayer... the world's greatest wireless connection!
May God bless your week!
