Both my mother and Jerry's mother wore hats and white gloves, as did our grandmothers. My mother's and mother-in-law's hats were 'pillbox' hats made popular by Jackie Kennedy.

I often wondered what advice Jerry's grandma was giving to me. She was a jolly, happy lady.
Hats and gloves aren't the only things that have changed over the last 49 years... wedding gowns have gone from long sleeves and high necks to strapless bodices that don't leave a lot for the imagination! ;-) They're beautiful though, and my granddaughter will be lovely in hers this August.
Perhaps the most sobering thing I realized from these photos is that none of these loved ones are with us anymore. The Apostle James said it right "...You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes." [James 4:14]
How important to enjoy the gift of life while it's ours, and to make preparations for the eternal life to follow!
I love the pictures of the mothers and grandmother in hat and gloves. Both Terry and my mother wore a hat to our wedding and I think they both had gloves. I will have to get the pictures.

ReplyDeleteI don't recall anyone wearing hats to my wedding (although I remember my grandmothers wearing hats to church when I was a child) but I wore my mother's gown, which had long sleeves, rarely seen these days on a wedding gown.
