Sunday Reflection...

My paternal aunt, Dot McCollister, wrote a book in 2006 about her Christian journey.  She turns 90 next Saturday, September 10th, and I re-read her book yesterday afternoon/evening.

She quoted James 4:2 "...You have not because you ask not" in chapter IV.  Then she related a personal incident that gave the scripture new meaning.

Her son, a magazine publisher, wanted to reward his employees for their hard work that week with 'something really special' at their staff meeting.  My aunt has always been a fabulous cook and baker, so he called her to ask if she'd be willing to make a batch of her cheese biscuits for their meeting.

My aunt said she felt so honored that he considered her cheese biscuits 'something really special', and wanted to serve them to his staff.  Then God reminded her that He's just as thrilled when we, His children, come to Him with our requests too.

Her experience reminded me of my recent August 28th blog post when I shared Matthew 7:11. The scripture bears repeating:  "If you then, who are evil [sinful by nature] know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in Heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!" [NIV]

Our God is such a loving Heavenly Father.

May He bless your week!

  1. Happy birthday next weekend to your Aunt Dot. How wonderful that she wrote a book about her journey.
