Today is the first Sunday of the Advent Season - four Sundays and 20 weekdays of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas, as well as anticipating His second coming.
[Kurt Adler Advent Calendar]
The Advent wreath is a circular garland of evergreen branches representing eternity. It contains five candles with one candle lit each Sunday.
The first candle of Advent [purple, symbolizing royalty - Jesus is the King of kings] is called the "Prophecy Candle" in remembrance of the prophets, particularly Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. It represents hope and anticipation of the coming Messiah.
Wishing you a happy first Sunday of advent Phyllis.

Advent blessings to you, too.
ReplyDeleteWe lit a candle on the Advent Wreath at church yesterday too. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas season, Phyllis -- you have been SUCH a great blessing to me this year in particular!
