Bow Making Workshop at English Gardens

When I received an E-mail from English Gardens [a Michigan based nursery and garden center] stating they were having a bow making workshop last Saturday, I called and made a reservation.  The fee was an affordable $5.00 per person, plus the price of the ribbon for the bow.

A workshop on making professional looking bows is perfect timing for my upcoming ladies Christmas tea at church, especially since the theme of the program is all about tablescaping.

There were six of us in the 10:00 a.m. class and Debbie was our instructor.

Most all of the ladies were making large bows for a Christmas tree topper or for their fireplace mantels.

I made my bow to go on the top of my silver plated three tiered server that will be a centerpiece for my tablescape demonstration.   Pictured below is my finished bow.

The name of my tablescape will be, "A Glistening Christmas."  One of the tips I'll be sharing at the Christmas tea is:  Every table should delight all five senses, and the first sense to focus on is sight.  A beautifully set table is a feast for the eyes and sets the mood. The centerpiece is the anchor and focal piece of the tablescape.

It has been said silver is the table's jewelry, and since it greatly contributes to the glistening effect, it's a must for my centerpiece.  Crystal, mirrors, and candles will also contribute to the glistening effect.

At this point, the centerpiece is still a work in progress, but I wanted to show where I placed the bow I made at the workshop.  The tiered server stands 25 inches tall, and is 12 inches across at its widest point.  It will sit on a large round silver tray.  I still have embellishments to add such as silver leaves and icy-like crystal picks.  Different glass ornaments will also be added to the top tier, which still have to be purchased, but you get the idea.   More photos to come when the centerpiece is completed.

Do you enjoy tablescaping?

  3. Perfect timing for this workshop! I have never learned to properly make a bow and would have enjoyed this. Yours is absolutely perfect! And I love the name "A Glistening Christmas," as "glistening" is such a *pretty* word that you don't hear very often.

  5. I like the name you chose for your tablescape and so far the three tiered server is looking awesome. I've learned to make bows a few times but never seem to remember the correct way.
