Royal Park Hotel Zoom Tea Party

I actually set my alarm last night before going to bed so I'd have plenty of time today to set my tea table, make tea sandwiches and desserts, get dressed up, and be ready for the virtual Zoom tea party at 1:00 o'clock.

This is the first time I've set my alarm since the Coronavirus quarantine went into effect. It's also the first time I've taken a dress out of my closet to wear, donned pantyhose, and put on a pair of dress shoes.  I spent more than five minutes styling my hair today too!  Jerry almost didn't recognize me! ;-)  This quarantine has made me very lazy laid-back!

It's not the best time for planning a tea party due to stores being understocked with low food supplies, and my reluctance to drive to specialty stores [if they're even open].  But where there's a will, there's a way.  Fortunately some things were in my freezer.  My savories were Chicken Salad Croissants, Olive/Walnut Cream Cheese on Wheat Bread, and no tea party would be complete without Cucumber Sandwiches.

Scones were the Australian recipe that I mentioned in yesterday's post with mock Devonshire Cream and Blackberry Jam.

Desserts were individual Angel Food Cakes filled with Pistachio Pudding; Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread; and Phyllo cups filled with Chocolate Mousse topped with a piece of Dove Dark Chocolate. Our tea was Earl Grey Supreme by Harney & Sons [Jerry's favorite].

In honor of my mom this Mother's Day, I set my table with some of her pink Depression glass, and used two teacups with roses on them by Royal Albert since her middle name was Rose.  The pink Sadler teapot also has roses on it.

At 1:00 p.m. sharp my hubby had his laptop in position ready for the Zoom tea party to begin.  A message appeared on the screen:  Please wait, the meeting host will let you in soon.  Mother's Day Virtual Tea with Mary 5/10/2020

Mary Kuhn is the Tea Hostess at the Royal Park Hotel and she moderated the virtual tea, but guests made comments throughout the event. Mary was inspired to plan it when her niece's traditional bridal tea was cancelled by the Coronavirus quarantine, and a virtual Zoom tea party was hosted instead.  Her family gave her technical instructions on how to use Zoom - a new phenomenon to most of us ushered in by the virus - and she did a great job.

Only 25 squares are represented in the photo below, but the hotel Facebook page said over 100 participated.  The response was great.  Jerry and I are to the left of Mary's square, but you can't see us clearly.

Special thanks to Mary and the Royal Park Hotel for hosting this fun event and helping to make Mother's Day special in spite of the pandemic quarantine.  Tea makes any situation better!

Be safe and stay well!

  2. Your table looks lovely and your food sounds delicious. I'm glad you enjoyed the Zoom tea. I had a Zoom birthday chat with several friends and my daughters, which I enjoyed thoroughly. Even better was a Google Meet that my son-in-law set up for my daughter's birthday Saturday. Having all 3 of my children, plus my grandchildren from time to time, on the same screen was wonderful and I told them it was a Mother's Day gift to me, too, since it was on Mother's Day weekend. Stay safe and well, my friend, and enjoy the tea!
