It's hard to believe this is my 1,800th post, and I'm writing to say Happy Cinco de Mayo!
I went to a Super grocery store earlier today. It's the first time I've been in a grocery store in weeks, but we have three family birthdays this month and I wanted to pick out the cards myself instead of asking my hubby to do it.
I recently received an e-mail from our favorite local Mexican restaurant saying they were now offering carry-out service. Since this is Cinco de Mayo Day I decided to place a carry-out order [my first carry-out order since the quarantine went into effect], and pick it up while I was out. They had an efficient order and pick-up station set up outside on the porch.
One small Botana and two ground beef soft shell Tacos. Yummy! Jerry and I rarely eat beef anymore [mostly chicken and fish], but these Tacos were so good, and I got a day off from cooking. Yay!
Recently the General Manager at The Whitney e-mailed a video of some creative and artistic cakes. Of course, my favorite was the teapot. I quickly took a picture of the cake while it was on my computer screen to share with you. I would hate to cut into a cake like this, would't you?
A few days ago I ordered Victoria The Art of Tea by Hoffman Media [publishers of Victoria and Teatime Magazines]. It arrived yesterday and it's a beautiful book! There are four sections: Essentials [that you need to know about teatime], Celebrations, Presentation, and Destinations. 163 pages of beautiful color photos, recipes, and helpful information. It was $29.95 and a free shipping promotion.
Like all their publications, the photography of china, tablescapes, and food are 'eye candy.' I highly recommend this book. They have another book, Teatime Birthdays, that will be coming out October 1st, and I'll be ordering it too.
The 146th Kentucky Derby was supposed to be last Saturday, May 2nd, but like so many other activities it was postponed due to the Coronavirus. It's been rescheduled for Saturday, September 5th. A tea friend put together a Kentucky Derby package for her aunt who was given a Christmas gift to the Derby in Louisville. Hoping to offset her disappointment by the postponement, she took her the fixings for Benedictine Sandwiches, Mini Kentucky Hot Brown Bites, Mint Julep Cupcakes, Mini Derby Pies and non-alcoholic [and alcoholic] Mint Juleps. I'm sure there was some tea in that package too. Isn't that a wonderful and thoughtful idea? Kudos to you, Teresa!
The photo below was taken at Thoroughbred Park in Lexington, KY in 2014 during a tea trip Linda Jennings [also a tea blogger] coordinated.
Be safe and stay well!
Glad you enjoyed your Cinco De Mayo dinner. Love the Kentucky Derby story. Thank You for the new date for the Derby. We were disappointed to not have the Derby. We will be watching on the fifth of September. The tea book is gorgeous. Enjoy.
