The postman recently delivered a lovely gift from a friend in California who wanted to send a remembrance when my mother passed away. As she pondered what she would send, she remembered my granddaughter, Tiffany, was close to my mother, and she's planning her wedding in 2015. She also recalled that I hosted two White Bible Ceremonies [which I blogged about here], and that I'd be hosting one for Tiffany. She decided to send a Tussie-Mussie as a way of my mom being represented at Tiffany's White Bible ceremony. The lovely remembrance is pictured below!
Tussie-Mussie is an endearing term from the early 1400's for small, round bouquets of herbs and flowers with symbolic meanings. Their popularity was renewed on both sides of the Atlantic during the Victorian era, and then faded when World War I began. Today their popularity is being revived, particularly for White Bible Ceremonies. The blog post about the ceremony I hosted in 2012 has been viewed 618 times, so the custom is definitely being researched online. Wouldn't it be fun to place a sprig from a tea plant in the bouquet to represent good health, and pleasurable, tranquil moments?

Raising my teacup to such a thoughtful and creative friend!
A thoughtful gift that you are going to put to a good use. I'll be reading your links when I return from bible study tonight.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and meaningful gift from a very thoughtful friend!
ReplyDeleteWe carried herbal tussie-mussies at my sister's wedding. The holder, similar to yours, was then our gift and remembrance of that very special day. It is a very special gift, as is yours. Treasure it!
