I had a list of tea places I wanted to visit while in NYC, and Alice's Tea Cup was on the list. There are three locations - Chapter I, II and III. Chapter I was just two streets over from where we were staying. They opened at 8:00 a.m., so Jerry and I walked over for breakfast just after they opened. Good thing, because by the time we left the place was packed. It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning in NYC.
Alice's Tea Cup is referred to as New York City's most whimsical tea house, and the interior bears that out.
They have an extensive tea menu. In addition to drinking tea inside the tea room, loose teas can be purchased at the front of the store to take home.
We had 12:00 p.m. reservations for Afternoon Tea at the Plaza Hotel, so we didn't want to get too filled up. We each ordered a poached egg [served in a teacup], a pumpkin scone, and a pot of English Breakfast tea.
A father and young daughter sat at an adjacent table, and told us they go there every Saturday morning for breakfast. Alice's is a bit on the pricey side - our poached eggs, scones and tea totaled $44, but it was worth the experience of having tea there. Regarding the father and daughter... the little girl hasn't even started school yet, but is a champion chess player! She was amazing.
After we ate we went back to the guest house to get Steve and Sharon, and then walked through Central Park to the Plaza Hotel... next post.
