Estate and Antique Mall Finds

I get e-mail notifications of estate sales in southeast, Michigan, but normally I only view the pictures of estate sales in my city.  I don't know what possessed me last night to view pictures of a sale in Northville, 31 miles away, but when I did I saw two green vases that I've been searching for.  [You may recall me blogging about one I purchased at an antique store in Chelsea, when I was there last week watching my grandchildren.]

Northville also has two antique malls I've been wanting to visit, and another antique mall in nearby Plymouth, so I decided to accomplish everything in one trip today.

The sale was described as, 'a massive vintage pickers sale - enter at your own risk, 18 years of age and older'.  It was as close to the TV show, American Pickers, as I've ever seen!  There were two different sizes of plastic bags you could fill for $10 or $20.  I only wanted two vases so they said they'd give me a deal if they were still available and I wouldn't be charged for a bag.   This is a screen shot I took from the company's website last night.

Northville is an upscale area, but this neglected house was secluded and surrounded by a lot of trees and not visible from the street.  I've never seen the inside of a hoarder's house, until today!  It's hard to imagine how anyone could live in such filth and disarray.

We made our way through several rooms until we came to the area where I spied the shelf that was close to 7 feet from the floor.  Someone had already bought the vase on the edge of the shelf but the other one was tucked back and hard to reach.  Thank goodness my hubby is 6 ft. 3 inches tall - and even then it was a reach for him - otherwise it probably would have been gone too.

A LOT of people were there filling bags as fast as they could.  Jerry said since we were there we might as well look around to see if there was anything else we wanted, but the filth made looking very difficult and unappealing.  I could never be a good 'picker.'  I did manage to find a book that was in excellent condition for my son, Steve, who is a huge Tiger baseball fan.  Then I was eager to pay and be gone.  The book and vase were a deal at $5.  It's hard to tell in the picture below, but the vase was covered with dust. It's been sitting on that shelf for a very long time, but it'll look lovely on my St. Patrick's Day tablescape with yellow daffodils in it a place setting.

This is the sign at the entrance to Northville.

Then we were off to 'The Barn' also in Northville.

We browsed both floors, but nothing said 'take me home', so we left for Knightsbridge Antique Mall.  When we got there it was 10:30 a.m. and the store didn't open until 11:00 so we moved on to the Town Peddler Craft and Antique Mall in nearby Plymouth.

I didn't see anymore small green vases, but I did find a beautiful Royal Albert luncheon plate in the Old English Rose pattern for $9.99.  I already had the teacup, so now I have a trio.

And I couldn't resist a pretty teapot trivet for $4.99.  It's actually the prettiest of the ten in my collection.

From there we headed back home.   It was a very interesting and fun-filled morning.  I hope the month of June is getting off to a great start for you.
